JESUS IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE: SEEMS WRONG BUT IT’S RIGHT.
JESUS IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE: SEEMS WRONG BUT IT’S RIGHT.
When preachers say Jesus
is the best example for Christian living, many of us are probably thinking the
opposite. Oh, when Jesus was on earth he was still the son of God, God in human
flesh. He came from heaven; how could he have sinned. So, Jesus can absolutely
not relate to anything we suffer when facing sin.
Well, let me tell you.
Jesus was made human in every way. Jesus was human in physical body, emotions,
thoughts and in every other way that we are human. Jesus even faced temptations
from the devil. You are probably still thinking that there was no way Jesus
would have yielded to temptation.
I will give you another
example of Jesus’s full humanity. When Jesus knew the time of his death was
coming, he was in sorrow and prayed for the hour to pass him by. Jesus did not
want to die, that is probably one of the most prominent features of human
beings. He was in anguish; his sweat was like blood. Matthew 26:16- 46, Mark
14: 32- 41 and Luke 22: 39- 46. These passages all show you just how human
Jesus was on earth.
However, as human as
Jesus was, he did not sin. He was always subjected to the will of the father.
Clearly, he had his own wants, desires and will as he was already human.
Despite that, he did not gratify the desires of his flesh. Rather, he was
totally obedient to God and his word. This is also seen in Matthew 26:16- 46,
Mark 14: 32- 41 and Luke 22: 39- 46.
If anything, the only
thing that was not human was his mind. He had a renewed mind. This mind was
filled with knowledge. He had the knowledge of God, heavenly things and not
things of the world. He had knowledge that made him stay above sin, temptations
and the desires of his flesh. He had knowledge that made him obedient even to
the point of death. This knowledge made him wise since he practiced it.
But all of us have access
to this knowledge. We also have a renewed mind.
“Do not conform to the
patterns of this world but be transformed by the RENEWING of your MIND…………”
Romans 12: 2.
So we have a renewed mind
in Christ. So immediately we go through new birth- accept Jesus as our personal
lord and savior- our minds are totally renewed and clean. As if we have never
known evil. The mind is perfectly ready to receive the knowledge of God. (This
may not appear so, because often times we expose ourselves to things that are
dangerous to our minds. Though they appear small.) This new mind is perfectly
ready to receive God’s word and knowledge. This is the mind that Jesus Christ
had. The bible even says that we have the mind of Christ.
“For, ‘Who has known the
mind of the lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the MIND of CHRIST” 1
Corinthians 2: 16
So the one thing that
seems to not have been human about Jesus has been given to us. We were given
the same mind as Jesus. This made Jesus our most perfect example. We have his
mind, so His life is perfect to signify what our life is supposed to be like. We
have his mind, so use the manual which is Jesus’s life to make proper use of
his mind.
Besides, Jesus overcame
all the temptations by knowledge. He countered the devil by God’s word. So, we
have the renewed mind but in order to be transformed by it we need to fill the
renewed mind with knowledge of his word. The knowledge of God in our minds will
enable us to live above sin just like He did. So, having an effective study
time will not only enable us to live above sin but also obey God’s word and
will. The bible even said he learnt obedience from what he suffered.
Another major virtue that
qualified Jesus as a PERFECT example was his love for righteousness and hatred
for wickedness. (Hebrew 1: 10-14) So, Jesus Christ not just loved God and us,
he also loved righteousness and worked towards it. Jesus’s love for
righteousness qualified him to sit at God’s right hand and made him our
firstborn. Because of this God anointed him with the oil of JOY that enthrones.
(One of the importance of joy by the way.)
God does not only see our
deeds but also the thoughts behind those deeds and he acknowledges them. Like
Jesus, we must also love the things he loves and hate the things he hates.
So, Jesus is our PERFECT
example in everything we do. He is the one to determine the things we do. Our
watchword should be, “What would Jesus do?”. In every situation asking this
question will help us make all the right decisions.
